Their first match at EBI was very competitive but Gordon progressed much more than Craig has since then. It was also a bad sequence for Craig once he went for the guillotine. Can't let a guy like Gordon get a good position then a head of steam to start bulldozing forward through his sequences.
It was brutal dominance. And also bjj 101. Pass, Progress through pisitions Land in mount or Back mount. Submission. And it works in the highest Levels. Its insane
Craig knew Gordon has too much weight on him and his technique has evolved much further than Craig. Craig is the only real threat to Gord but he needs to get some weight on him and start wrestling/pummeling with his legs more. It’s all about making the right move at the right time to start moving forward. Gordon developed that systematic way of passing to a higher degree plus his size, unless someone catches him lacking, no ones gonna beat him. Def not anyone that’s not his weight hence the first guy. The main reason he picked up the pace against Craig is because he knows Craig is the only one with the potential to catch him lacking, but he just started off on a bad position and Gordon knew as soon as he fell into that guillotine that it was only forward from there.
To the credit of the much smaller Vitor Ribeiro, he's one of only two (that I can think of) who Ryan wasn't able to RNC from the back. The second one was Palhares.
